Not us but State Marine Fisheries Dept:
LKIM By Raynore Mering KUCHING: The issuance of licence to fishermen in Sarawak is the responsibility of the State Marine Fisheries Department and not the Malaysian Fisheries Development Board (LKIM).LKIM Sarawak director Abdul Rahman Ellis said this in a press statement yesterday to refute comments made by Santubong Member of Parliament Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar on Friday.

Junaidi had taken LKIM to task during a dialogue with the Kampung Buntal Fishermen Association, saying he was not happy that some fishermen had to wait up to a year for their licence from the board. He felt that if it was too much of a hassle for LKIM to issue the licence, the fishermen should be allowed to go back to their old ways of fishing without the need for any licence. “I am very sad that this problem has not been solved. The officials in LKIM who approve the licence should be more attentive to the needs of our fishermen. “This is their rice bowl…how much longer must they wait for the licence so that can go out and make a living for themselves and their families,” he had said.
